John Calvin

John Calvin
is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Lake
Tahoe, NV. He is currently a junior undergraduate in the anthropology
and philosophy departments at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, and
aspires to become an ethnomusicologist after entering graduate school,
and one day, earn his degree in piano composition.
Coming from a myriad of genres, he has trained under Sean Al-Jibouri,
guitarist, jazz musician, and fundamental member of the Tulsa
funk/jazz group, Harmonious Monk. Performing in many bands himself,
including the jam-rock band, the John Calvin Experiment, and the
arabic rhythm/jazz group The Bedouin Duet, John also serves as a
musician-for-hire for other groups and recording artists around Norman
and Tulsa, along with teaching guitar lessons in his free time. Away
from folk rock, John has a strong love for the spirit of improvisation
in all forms of music.
Under his independent label, Tin Can Songs, John has produced the
Bedouin Duet's first EP, along with his debut EP, Walls of the City.
He is currently working on his next album, writing his first modern
dance work, and playing many shows in the Norman area.
You can usually catch him half-asleep at night, making rice and
creating ambient music simultaneously, in his little secret hut on
campus corner.
