Kiki Hiott

I was born in South Carolina and first moved to Norman in 1979 to train Peace Corps volunteers in fish culture. I left to study at Auburn University and receive a master's degree in Aquaculture, then moved back to Norman in 1991 to marry the love of my life, Bill Shelton.

I came to art late in life by taking classes at the Fire House Art Center. I worked in clay for six years, but have since worked mostly with metal and textiles. I have combined several disciplines, including book-making,felting, metal working, scrounging old bones and other found objects, and beading to make books.

My books are created from hand-made felt, vintage and unusual fabrics, and found objects. They are then highly embellished with beads in whimsical designs, always including a fish (or two or ten!). They are hand bound using paper to suit the design and character of each book.
