Nick Hermes

Nick Hermes was born in Norman, Oklahoma in 1972. After earning BFAs from both Whittier College and Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, he returned to Oklahoma in 1996. Nick has worked as an illustrator, muralist, graphic designer, writer, comic strip artist and portraitist, before turning his full focus to fine art in 2007. “I’ve always described my work as ‘realistic cartooning’, but my roots are in illustration and the Pop Surrealist movement. I like the paintings to be narrative, but unexpected. I want them to draw a smile from the viewer.” His work has been in many local shows, including two buffalo the Nature Conservancy’s 2005 ‘Spirit of the Buffalo’ exhibition and most recently in the Downtown OKC’s show ‘Seeing Other People’ in February 2009. Nick is represented by Joe Wade Fine Art in Santa Fe, NM. He lives and works with his wife Barbara in Oklahoma City.
