Jim Cobb
I have painted in oils for over fifteen years – the last ten years ‘full-time’. I paint in my Norman studio as well as a studio I maintain in Taos, New Mexico. My subject matter is all inclusive; I paint still life, portraits, the human figure and landscapes. My goal and current working method is to continue painting form life and live models, as well as painting ‘alla prima’ which means starting and finishing each work while it is still wet and fresh. I draw from the live model at least twice a week for a usual six hours. My media for drawing is usually charcoal and conte’ pencils from Paris.
I have won every award (including ‘Best In Show’) over the last several years since the Oklahoma Art Guild has gone to a national juried format. I have completed multiple commissioned portraits to include Dr. George Goodman for the new Hebb Herbarium on the O.U. campus, A Fortune 500 C.E.O. and one for an O.U. National Fraternal Hall of Fame. I have taught drawing here at the University of Oklahoma College of Fine Arts. My work has been exhibited in one-man shows here and in Taos, N.M. Galleries are on hard times with the current economy, nevertheless, my work has been in several Oklahoma City galleries as well as on the walls of galleries in Santa Fe and Taos, N.M.
MissionHill is an exciting opportunity for all artists, collectors and Norman residents who just want to see their community expanding in cultural endeavors.
